Album Title: Parachutes
Artist: Coldplay
Release Date: 2000
Coldplay's first album, "Parachutes",
is an all-killer-no-filler kind of album. It supports my theory
that the first album is always the best. It starts off with
the very apt opening, "Don't Panic", and ends with
the hopeful, "Everything's Not Lost". In between,
you've got the hits, "Shiver", "Yellow"
and "Trouble".
Coldplay's style is nothing like that of other
British imports such as Oasis, Suede, or Blur. Their style
is uniquely their own, clean, hypnotic, almost melancholic,
as exemplified in "Sparks". Simple yet truly elegant.
One recurring theme in the album is love. But
don't get me wrong. Chris Martin writes a different kind of
love song. From the ignored lover in "Shiver" to
the lovesick bloke in "Sparks", he invites sentimentality
with his exceptionally soothing voice.
A lot of people would think that the album's
overall atmosphere seemed sad and a bit subdued. I think it
is more relaxing than it is depressing. This album has received
various nominations and awards. It's definitely not an album
to miss! It's a must have for those lazy Sunday afternoons
when you've got nothing better to do than just relax. (5 out
